What would it look like if every student, teacher and parent in your school or district were speaking the same study skills language? What if there was a way to provide study skills training to every student, teacher and parent from the comfort of their homes without the school having to create a separate class to teach these skills? After all, study skills are not meant to be taught in isolation. They are intended to become part of the learning culture for everyone involved in the educational journey.
Of course, many schools actually teach Study Smarts as a separate class. However, often times, schools simply do not have enough time in a school day or a teacher with enough time to facilitate a study skills class. With that in mind, we decided to create a solution that removes those barriers and also gives schools an opportunity to include parents in the process.
Do you think parents would feel empowered to support their child with proven study skills? Do you believe teachers could use a refresher on how to teach study skills in their classroom? What if students actually believed they could achieve more academically? Research says that it takes three elements for students to be successful – self worth, motivation and study skills.
We have trained all three of these with proven results for the last 28 years!
The concept and implementation is simple. Give everyone in the school or district access to the same study skills video training with an accompanying hard copy workbook or a downloadable workbook. Everyone completes the training at their own pace or you can choose to have them complete the training at a specified deadline. Parents will thank you for this gift. Study skills are then transferred to core classes where students will get better grades, experience less stress and have more fun!
Rather than having your families pay $50 for an individual membership each, you provide each family with a free coupon code that we provide you based on the scope of how many schools and families you wish to participate in the training. The training is appropriate for students in grades 5-8 and for students in grades 9-12. It comes with two separate courses for those age groups and your families will have access to both courses. The workbook is 32 pages and is designed to be completed as students watch the video training. Videos are broken up into small sections, but cover roughly 3 hours of content along with a discussion guide. This allows you to customize the delivery of the training so parents or teachers may dig deeper into the material with thought-provoking discussion questions. It covers topics and skills like self worth, motivation, note taking, organization, memory techniques, learning styles, test-taking strategies, procrastination elimination, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, goal setting, time management and more.
